Westcliff Hotel Closed for Renovations

The Westcliff Hotel in Johannesburg is one of the city’s landmarks, and has long been considered the place to go for High Tea, a British tradition of indulging in afternoon tea, sandwiches, scones, pastries and cakes.

The hotel has shut its doors temporarily as a result of renovations that are being done to the property.

The hotel will only reopen again in July 2014, and it is unclear at this stage as to what the name of the hotel will be upon reopening, and whether it will retain its old name which is steeped in history and tradition, or whether it will undergo a re-branding exercise prior to reopening.

Either way, it will certainly be transformed, and will boast a new restaurant, bar and spa.

The Westcliff Hotel has always been a five star hotel with affluent clientele and 115 rooms. The hotel is situated along Jan Smuts Avenue near Parktown, and boasts enviable views over the treetops of Johannesburg.
